Heeft naast zijn mooie bloemen ook nog eens heerlijke vruchten. Komt voor in een groot deel van Zuid Amerika en dan vooral in een gebied rond de Amazone rivier.
Hierbij moet je denken aan Bolivia, groot gebied van Brazië, Costa Rica enz. Wordt in deze landen zeer gerespecteerd om zijn heerlijke vruchten.
Is natuurlijk tropisch en moet daarom overwinteren bij een min temp van z'n 12° C.
